Tom Johnson's Testemonial donates £6000 to Foundation
Two charities have received a special Christmas present from former Exeter Chiefs star Tom Johnson. Tom presented a cheque for £6,000 to both the Exeter Foundation and The Royal Marines Charity. The money was raised during the ex-player’s testimonial year.
Tom was one of the club’s longest-serving players and marked his milestone by organising a series of fundraising events. The most eye-catching of all was a cheeky calendar showing Tom and his teammates ripped and stripped down to their undies. Other events included a Great Gatsby themed dinner at Sandy Park, a Musical Extravaganza at Exeter Cathedral and a Golf Classic at Woodbury Park.
Tom has played a key role in the success of the Chiefs and also enjoyed the rare honour of playing for his country. He was awarded his testimonial year having spent almost 10 years with the club.
Tom, who has since launched a fitness and lifestyle business, said: “It was an awesome year, lots of fun and one that I will remember fondly. I would like to thank everyone who contributed money to support the various events and especially my committee who worked so hard to make everything a success.”
Tony Rowe, Chairman of the Exeter Foundation, the Exeter Chiefs charity, said: “Tom was a great servant for the Chiefs. We are grateful for that and this generous donation. It is a fantastic early Christmas present for us.”
