The Exeter Foundation Presentation Dinner 2013

A charity which was set up just three years ago has already raised more than £200,000 for good causes in Devon.

The Exeter Foundation was established with the aim of promoting a sense of community in the city and the surrounding areas.

Its chairman is Exeter Chiefs Chief Executive Tony Rowe OBE and the trustees include several leading figures in the local business community, including celebrity chef Michael Caines MBE.

The Foundation supports several charities throughout the year, many of which receive designated funds.

However, undesignated funds are also set aside which any charity can apply for.

The most recent recipients of a share of this pot were the Exeter Sea Cadets who received £7,000 towards a powerboat and trailer and Hospiscare which was awarded another £7,000.

And a host of other organisations received their annual cheques, along with a bonus £500 ‘surprise gift’, at the Foundation’s recent annual dinner.

More than 130 people attended the event including Exeter Chiefs players, Jack Nowell and James Hanks.

The guest speaker was the Dean of Exeter Cathedral, the Very Reverend Dr Jonathan Draper.

Charities receiving cheques this year were: Brandon Trust, Sands, Exeter Adaptive Ski, Dream – a – Way, Lions Club of Exeter, Exeter Chiefs Youth Section, Families for Children, FORCE cancer charity, Ellen Tinkham School, Richard’s Wish, Vranch House, Wooden Spoon, Age UK Exeter, The C Group, Exeter Paediatric Oncology, Exeter Community

An additional £1250 was raised on the night which was matched by Thomson Reuters.

Supporters of the charity, include the Exeter Business Games, Thomson Reuters, Northcott Beatton, Abode, and Puffins of Exeter.
