Foundation funds new community vehicle for the SW MS Centre

A funding grant from the Exeter Foundation has helped the South West MS Centre to purchase a new wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Based in Clyst Heath, The South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre was established in 1982 as a self-funding registered charity to provide for the provision of therapies, information and support for people with Multiple Sclerosis, their carers and families in the South West.

The new vehicle enables members, who would otherwise be unable to use the facilities at the MS Centre, to have a comfortable, reliable and safe route into the centre for both appointments and any additional outings they may have organised.   The service the vehicle will provide is run by volunteers who freely give up their time in order for members to be able to utilise the facilities at the centre and enhance their therapies and support available to them.

Tracey Skinner, Fundraising Manager for the charity said that everyone at the Centre was “thrilled to have been chosen by Exeter Foundation to benefit from a generous grant to help fund the purchase our wheelchair accessible vehicle.

"It’s made such a difference to our members who otherwise wouldn’t be able to visit the Centre and access our services. The wellbeing of our members is greatly improved through their visits to our Centre and the therapies we provide, reducing the isolation many people experience. It is also essential for them to feel supported, retain some independence and to still do things they enjoy for as long as possible," she continued.

Chairman of the Exeter Foundation, Tony Rowe said, "the new vehicle enables the MS Centre to help even more people within the local community and allow their members to really take advantage of the assistance that they can provide. With their old vehicle being no longer fit for purpose, we were happy to be able to support such a fantastic project for many in our local area."
