Foundation supports local charity Living with Aphasia

The Exeter Foundation have recently supported Living with Aphasia with a grant towards uniforms and equipment to allow the charity to enhance the community support the 'Just Saying' programme, a campaign to end the loneliness and isolation experienced by people in Exeter, East and Mid-Devon affected by aphasia.

Aphasia is a communication disorder that affects the brain, usually as a result of a stroke or head injury. It is estimated that there are around 700 people in Exeter living with aphasia, and many more in East and Mid-Devon, all experiencing the frightening consequences of communication loss. Living with Aphasia, a newly-formed charity, is committed to ensuring that awareness of aphasia is increased and that everyone affected learns of the support that we and others provide in enabling people to reconnect with life.

Exeter Foundation Trustee Michael Caines MBE joined the team at their 1st year anniversary celebrations along with children from Wellington School who were taking part in a sponsored walk on the day raising more funds for the charity.   After attending the event, Michael said "The team at Living with Aphasia are key in the success of promoting the good work that the charity does in and around the city.  Aphasia can be such a debilitating lonely condition that many are unaware of, the 'Just Saying' programme is a wonderful way of getting the support out there to those who need it whether for themselves or for family and friends."
